Marion Biber-Janda, bassoon

was born in Lower Austria in 1984. She studied with Prof. Dietmar Zeman, Prof. Stepan Turnovsky and Prof. Richard Galler at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and completed her degree in instrumental studies, as well as her degree in musical education with honours.

After holding a position as principal bassoon at the Reichenhaller Philharmonie in Germany from 2007 to 2009, she had a temporary contract as second bassoon at the Tonkünstler Orchestra. Currently, she is a substitute player at the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna State Opera and the Volksoper Vienna. Her performances with orchestras have brought her to China, Japan, Canada and the USA.

Passing on her passion for the bassoon to the next generation has been the focus of her teaching at various music schools in Lower Austria (2005-2015) and at the Johann Sebastian Bach music school in Vienna (since 2010). From 2013 to 2014 she was appointed professor for bassoon at the Johann-Joseph-Fux Conservatory in Graz and since 2014, she holds the position of lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In addition to her position as a lecturer, she regularly teaches bassoon and chamber music at various summer academies.

Chamber music has always been a focal point of her musical career. She is a permanent member of the ensembles Trio Mignon Wien and Airstaunlich and has also performed with the ensemble Zeitfluss. Even as a student at school she was already composing solo pieces and chamber music and, in 2004, even worked with the project „Neue Musik für junge Fagottisten“ (Contemporary Music for Young Bassoonists).
